Equal Adventure at The Ledge Climbing Wall, Inverness
Adventure belongs to everyone.
The Inclusive Climbing Club is a welcoming monthly space where people come together to climb, connect and explore movement in ways that feel right for them. Delivered by Equal Adventure at The Ledge Climbing Wall, the club creates a positive, supportive environment for anyone who wants a more thoughtful, flexible and human way to experience climbing.
This programme is funded by The National Lottery Fund and supported by the British Science Association and the Wellcome Trust, helping us develop inclusive adventure that goes beyond one-off sessions and builds long-term participation.
What is the Inclusive Climbing Club?
It’s more than a climbing session.
Each month, The Ledge becomes an Equal Adventure Hub — a place to:
- Try climbing in a supportive, pressure-free environment
- Move at your own pace
- Spend time with others
- Build confidence through small, achievable adventures
We use the idea of microadventures — small steps that add up to big changes — focusing on curiosity, capability and what’s possible.
Who is it for?
The Inclusive Climbing Club is for:
- People who are new to climbing
- People returning after a break
- Children, young people and adults
- Anyone who wants a calmer, more supportive way to be active
No experience needed.
No pressure to perform.
You choose how you take part.
Friends, families and support people are always welcome.
How the day works
To keep sessions safe, calm and supportive, the day is structured in two halves:
🧗 Session 1 — 11:00 am to 12:00 pm
This first session is focused on seated climbers and people who benefit from more supported climbing.
🍽 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm — Lunch & social time
A relaxed break to eat, rest, chat and reset before the second session.
🧗 Session 2 — 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm
This second session is for stood climbers and those climbing with trunk and arm support.
New climbers are very welcome to arrive up to an hour before their session so there is plenty of time to get settled, meet the team and feel comfortable before climbing begins.
What to expect
A relaxed, friendly session where:
- Supportive instructors are on hand
- Adaptive equipment is available when helpful
- You can climb, watch, chat or take a break
- Everyone is encouraged in their own way
Some people come to climb.
Some come to watch first.
Both are completely okay.
A strong start
The club launched with a busy, high-energy pilot event, full of first climbs, shared encouragement and real excitement. That energy continues to shape how the club grows — thoughtfully, safely and with the community at its heart.
